When you decide to retire, your employer must be advised as soon as possible so that a replacement can be found for you. You may also be asked to train the new employee. You and your manager will need to agree on the exact date of your termination of employment. Your manager must then notify your employer’s Human Resources department so that your payroll file can be finalized.
When your retirement date has been determined, you will need to submit a request to the Desjardins Group Pension Plan (DGPP). The process is very easy. Simply go to My File located in the secure section of the DGPP website. Then, go to the “Submit a Request” section on the “My File” page and choose “Official Retirement.” You will need to enter the requested information: your retirement date, your spouse’s contact information, if applicable, and your address. Please note that you can’t submit your retirement request more than 56 days before you are due to retire. Also, from age 60, you can apply to receive your pension for the Régime de rentes du Québec (RRQ) or the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).
Approximately 4 to 5 weeks after your employer closes your RH file (after your termination date), all the official DGPP documents will be posted in your file (“My File” page, “My Requests” section) and also sent to you by regular mail. You will then need to choose the type of annuity you would like to receive and also sign the official documents:
- DGPP - statement and election of benefits on retirement
- Choice of annuity payment method
- Copy of your (and your spouse’s, if applicable) proof of birth
- Temporary Annuity Statement (only if you choose a type of annuity that includes a temporary annuity)
- Waiver of Spouse's Right to the Joint and Survivor Annuity (only if you have a spouse and choose a type of annuity where this document is required)
- “DGPP Beneficiary Designation” form
You will need to return all the documents to Desjardins Financial Security and keep a copy of the official DGPP document showing the type of retirement pension you chose for your records.
Once we have received these duly signed documents and the requested information, your pension will be authorized and paid monthly on the anniversary date of your retirement (for retirements between the 29th and 31st day of each month, payments will be made on the 28th day of each month). If your pension is indexed, every December you will receive a letter notifying you of the percentage of pension indexation for the following year and the new amounts that will be payable to you before and after taxes.
If you would like to change the amount of tax withheld, you can do so in your file on this website or call the Member Services Team at the following number: 1-866-434-3166. Once a year, when the guarantee period of your life annuity has ended, the DGPP’s administrative manager (DFS) will send you a form that you must sign and return. This form is used to update DGPP retirees’ files.

When you retire
One month before you retire, fill out a retirement notice and send it to Desjardins Insurance. You'll hear back about your eligibility for group insurance coverage.
Even you ask to be exempted from the health component because you've got coverage under your spouse's plan, you still have to sign up for the plan to get the life insurance.
