My role
Desjardins Group has put everything in place to give me the support I need to plan for my retirement.
Now it's my turn to spend some time looking into it.
I need to start thinking now about the insurance coverage that I want to have for me, my spouse and my dependents once I am retired.
To cover my spouse and dependents after I retire, I will need to have covered them under my plan for a certain number of years before I retire.
When I am ready to retire, I need to inform my manager of my official retirement date.
Next, I need to submit an official retirement request, no earlier than eight weeks before my retirement date, via the "My file" tab in the secure Pension Plan section.
To benefit from insurance coverage at retirement, I need to send the "Notice of Retirement" form to Desjardins Financial Security.
I also need to remember to submit my requests to receive the QPP or CPP and the OAS by visiting the appropriate websites when it comes time to contact them.
In addition, I need to protect my wealth in the event of my death by making sure that I have a will that matches up with my wishes.
Even if I'm not retiring any time soon, I want to be sure to have looked into everything and be ready when it's time to retire. I need to start now.
This is much more than benefits offered by an employer; it's my peace of mind for life.
